...now it's a Hallway to remember

BEFORE
Dark, dingy, that horrible pink/cream and dirty red. Painted faux wood panelling
...and the prostitute red carpet throughout is what our hallway was bestowed with when we moved in.

AFTER
Re-plastered, tall skirting's, chair rail, picture rail, deep cornices, polished Tasmanian Oak floorboards and a lick of Chalk USA and Cocoa Candy and the installation of french doors and huge glass over light and we welcomed in loads of natural light to a previously cave like space.
We still haven't followed the white paint scheme from the main living area through to this side of the doors while we work out our solution to Mic hating the white colour. So this is still the old paint colour we originally put up...Cocoa Candy by Wattyl. I still like it, but would just want it a little lighter, maybe 1/4 strength.

I have however changed my little vignette in the hall.
Which started out looking like this. The mirror and table my Dad made for us when we had our first home. Big wicker trunk was a thrift shop find by Mum that I love.

It now looks like this.
This mirror ways a tonne and I wouldn't even dare to hang it on the wall in fear that our
beloved plaster would be hanging in shred's!
White Peonies and Eucalyptus in my favourite Market basket, a vintage frame and a 'D' for our Son was all I thought it needed. I love this new vignette so much more.
I know I was going to show you what I done in the Living Room next, but when I went through the photos realised that seeing the French Doors aren't finished yet, I may as well what until it is all completed...hope you don't mind waiting a bit longer.
As always, I would love to hear what you think of this transformation.

  1. Stunning! Love your vignette, it's very cozy. The hallway looks amazing, it really enhances the lead windows. Is it Art Nouveau? How old is your house?

  2. Beautiful! U must be very proud of the end results. So much character! Is that a carpet hall runner?

  3. Beautiful Living,
No its not Nouveau. The house was built October 23rd 1885. It is an Australian Cottage. It used to be the Doctors home.

  4. Hi Katrina,
We are very proud and will be more so when these sodding doors and veranda get done!
Yes that is carpet. We had to have it custom made beause the Hallway is so wide. You can't touch either side with your arms straight out, so a normal runner looked a bit Anorexic down there! It is a sisal look with a slight pattern. I have just noticed one of the boys matchbox cars are on it. I should really look for these things when I take photos. Oh well...it is lived in!

  5. Love love love it! Including the cocoa candy colour - it is so soft and neutral looking. And your new arrangement on the table is just perfect - I love the 'less is more' approach. Beautiful!

  6. Your hallway looks wonderful...even with Coco Candy color...it is difficult sometimes when our partner has different opinions on decorating...compromises must be made. My son and his fiance are going through this right now...they purchased a home that required work and they are butting heads on paint colors, tile colors, etc...
I also agree the new arrangement on your table is perfect...
