Soapstone Love...

My long love of soapstone started while watching Ms Stewart many, many years ago and ever since I have coveted this wonderful material and wanted kitchen benches made from it.
Not only does it looks fabulous, it gets even better with age.
...maybe I could have a soapstone butlers sink too?!
Either way - I love it!

  5. I love soapstone too but when we had our kitchen built a few years ago no-one had heard of it. We ended up having honed granite which has a similar look but no-one had heard of that either and when we explained that we wanted the shine taken off granite they thought we had gone mad! Like soapstone though it does get better with age. Love the room in your pic.

  15. Hi Ness,

Love the picture showing soapstone at it's best!! Wouldn't you say that it is not used here much and it seems to be quite popular in America? Do you know what it is made out of exactly??? I have known people to put in cement benchtops and heard someone else say that the edges can chip away!! So I don't really know, I think every surface has it's pro's and con's. Will call in again later...
    Take care

  17. Oops -- nice laundry, not kitchen. My bad. HA! @ the countertop personnel's not knowing about soapstone or honed granite, for that matter! Built, been there, done that! When I inquired about loose-fitting slipcovers recently, the gal at the store had NO idea what I meant! ??? Is she not addicted to decorating blogs? HA!
