I'm Tufted!

Hi there!
Lately I have been dying to have a go at tufting, you know the lush padded-with-button thing like above? Yep...good.
I have had a L O N G love affair with tufting when I first spied a Chesterfield sofa. One of these beauties is on my list of things to have before I shuffle off the planet =0)
But, in the meantime I am loving tufted headboards and footstools, and not in any fabric - Linen!!

This one here from the Urban Outfitters gives you a better look at the overall effect. Isn't it divine? While I have no thoughts of turfing our loved wooden bed, I am trying to find any excuse to try this technique.

Don't get me wrong, I do love just padded headboards too, but there is something luxurious, finished about tufted pieces.

You can just see how decadent it is with these gorgeous lights. I am not after something that looks a million dollars. I want my piece, whatever it may be, to look loved and...
...something like this would be
P E R F E C T!!
it is not uniformly smooth, there are extra creases here and there and it is still amazing.
Now to find something to attack ;0)

  3. Oh I know..I got tufted a long way back and still am tufted...my love affair is with a tufted Ottoman..DIVINE! If you search on Ebay hon..there are often quite a few tufted headboards...vintage ones...but do a search for velvet furniture..and you will get a better result..as alot of vintage tufted headboards are in velvet.

I love the look in linen..and it would suite your home so well..good luck on your little hunt xo

  4. I am dreaming up a way of creating a tufted covered board that I could attach over hang hooks to. This way, I will have a tufted piece to hang on the already existing headboard which can be removed to change up the feel of the room every once in a while. All this without ruining the original headboard! I may just have to give this a try myself ;-)
    Have a beautiful day!

  8. I love tufting too and would love a headboard! We have a leather tufted ottoman and the only thing I don't like about it is that lint, dust and overall grunge gathers in the tufts, probably because it's horizontal rather than vertical like a headboard would be. :)

  10. In the "old" days you could take any piece to the car upholsterer and he'd fix you right up... I wonder if they still do that anymore? Oh NO... I think I'd giving away my OLD age.

  14. Are you related to Little Miss Muffet? You know she sat on a tuffet......LOL! Don't know why I thought of that.

I'm in love with the tufted headboards too and the backs of chairs being tufted and foot stools and whatever looks good tufted.

I'm sure you will find something to work on.

  15. Hi Ness, I have just bought a chesterfield from a second-hand shop for a song. It is a disgusting turqoise leather, but I soon hope to upholster it in a lovely linen and add some timber legs. Good luck with finding one. Check out the second-hand stores. Leah

  16. Oh there she is! I knew Anna (Lona) would be weighing in on this... she has a severe tufting obsession! As soon as I saw your title I thought of her. Ness, you always amaze me in that you are so keen to give everything a go. I am sure a 'tufting opportunity' will present itself to you and it will be great to follow your experience! A-M xx

  22. The tufted headboards are sweet, especially the one balanced by the two petite chandeliers. I have large, round tufted ottoman. Regretfully, I have to keep it covered with a cute quilt to protect it from Maggie and Milo fur. :) xox Alexandra

  23. I fell in love with chesterfield sofa's a few years ago when I saw a really nice worn one in a second hand shop. the leather was obviously really good quality because even with it's age it still looked amazing.
It's one of the things on my 'dream list'!
