Taking Some Sick Leave...

Yep, I am having a few days sick leave. I spent last night in Hospital and I need to take some time for myself. I hope you all understand.
Skona Hem
So, I plan to not touch the computer for a few days, try and get some of my own projects done and just relax with Mic and the boys over the weekend.
I should be back Monday.

Wonderful Whites

I found some beautiful images whilst going through an old usb stick that I thought I might show you. This one above I originally spied at lily-g and have always thought it was stunning. You know I love slipcovers and these are just perfect. We couldn't have them at our dining table because it would close in the space, but I have been thinking of a back slip for them. I am so glad the stylist thought to add the natural colours in amongst the white or it would have been too much...I know, coming from me!!

This is not from my usb, but beautiful none the less. It is from a beautiful blogger called Rie. This is Rie's dining room - I know it is gorgeous...what 'til you see the rest! Rie has a stunning blog, Home & Harmony which has become one of my favourite places to visit. Her home is amazing...and for sale...and Rie is such a sweetheart. If you go and look at her blog, you will love it.
from my usb..unknown sorry.
With only 5 days left of our Australian Summer, this image evokes Autumn in me. The fog, light frosts and all of the stunning colours that come with this time of year...and the fact that this house is beautiful it had to be shown.
This image did have a purpose while I was looking through my files. Our old center island in our Kitchen has seen better days. The drawer runners are really starting to not run anymore and I have been thinking it would be good to just have shelves and two top drawers...or a new one completely. I really like this one, although it would never work in our space...or would it?
I hope you like these lovelies as much as I have.

UPDATE- All of the French letter filled pillows have sold and I am going through the motions of making up more, possibly in different colours too! so bear with me as I have been swamped with email orders and orders through Etsy. Thank you so much for all of your support. xx

OK, after loads of emails I have finally put these linen pillows onto my Etsy Shop!
They are filled, so are just like you see it here with it's beautiful French love letter printed in the middle.
You might remember when I first showed it to you on my bed in the master bedroom makeover post. It was this post that started all of the emails.

..and I recently showed it to you again on our sofa while I was playing around with some ideas for Autumn.
I love them and think they go so well with all of the other covers I have in The Shop.
I would love to hear what you think.

Ina's Paris Apartment.

When I posted about Ina Garten's barn not long ago, a few of you had asked if I had seen her Paris apartment - yes I had...and here it is in all it's glory.
Being that Ina is the entertainer extraordinaire, this shot complete with dining setting was a perfect shot I thought.
I love that this apartment could be any ones place, not just a multi millionaire's.
It is filled with simple, lovely, vintage pieces and Ina enjoys unwinding here. I would too.

Obviously the kitchen is a cooks dream, and even when she is here unwinding there is a lot of cooking and entertaining like only Ina knows how to do.
Now, these are the only images I could find, but if you have some more, I would love to see.
I hope you all have an awesome weekend and I will see you all on Monday.

Can't remember which magazine these are from..I know, naughty!

Giving You The Slip!

image unknown...sorry
The slipcover is an amazing thing when you have two little boys bouncing all over the place with muddy feet, grubby hands and always covered in grass or sand. It is slipcovers that have made family homes live able, attainable and designable. With a swathe of white denim, or better still white linen, a slipcover can be easily made.
Our own sofa is covered in a slipcover made by me and has been one of the best things the old sewing machine has ever run up, is always being washed and still looks great.
I have yet to cover the other sofa, just haven't had the time, but have put it in my diary to be done and finally I will have the slip covered sofas I have wanted since the boys were born.
The new Nancy Meyers film "It's Complicated", with its gorgeous set, courtesy of the amazing Beth Rubino, has a slip covered living room and I always feel that a family living space should be designed with comfort as well as beauty in mind. The slipcover is perfect for this. No need to cringe when you have a dinner party if your good friend has had a few to many wines and takes her banana pudding with butterscotch sauce over to the sofa to join the men on a debate about cars...just throw it in the soak bucket when they leave, wash and voila! new sofa again.

The famous set of Nancy Meyers "Something's Gotta Give", which was also designed by Beth Rubino, has set many a heart a flutter and a rush was made by those who could wield a sewing machine to cover their unloved sofas and breathe new life into them. I also love the fact that you can make seasonal covers for Winter, Summer and all in between for the small cost of some fabric.
Heiberg Cummings Design
Even the most hideous sofa can be turned into a thing of beauty, by removing big bulky back rests and creating a cosy haven with loads of down filled cushions to take their place. This one here reminds me of one I have seen made over, which had said bulky back cushions which were ripped off, and reused as smaller cushions and made an ugly couch somewhat of a statement piece.

Anything can be covered with a slip and I have done many of my own pieces, like our wing back chair, Chaise, sofa.....
Anyway you look at it, the slipcover is here to stay!

...and Kelly McGuill has a blog!

Lori from Frugal Farmhouse Designs blogged about the very talented Kelly McGuill the other day and that she has a blog...didn't know that.
I went over for a look and was blown away. I have admired Kelly for some time now, but was very pleased to see that she loves one of my all time favourite Designers, Tricia Foley!
Kelly's work is amazing and all that she uses is so my style =0)
I loved this shot because I have a wicker trunk beside our sofa and before Summer arrived, we had our blanket box as our coffee table on a jute rug with trim like this...and you know I use hydrangeas and have a thing for long branches!
The botanical images on the wall is something I would love to have in our living room somewhere too. The big mirror up the back of the shot reminds me of the window like mirrors my Dad makes...love it.
Kelly's use of white is so beautiful and I love throwing in industrial elements into a space like steel, nickle, signs etc and really liked what she has done with this kitchen.
Ticking is another love of mine...and I have this exact one! the blue and white fabric on the armchairs reminds me of another favourite of mine - blue and white china.
...but it is this space that makes me swoon!
White ginger jar lamp base, slip covered sofa, wooden floors, white furniture tucked in with wooden pieces and hints of greenery.
I am liking Kelly's style a lot!
Head over to Kelly's blog and check out more of her work. It is stunning.

Cushion Comfort...

Love this shot!
not only does it incorporate all of the elements I like in an interior, white, nickle hardware, wicker, greenery and layering fabrics and textures, but it has LOADS of cushions...and I am a huge fan of the cushion as you may have realised.
Since I was young I have had this 'thing' where I can't sit comfortably on a sofa, bench, bed...actually on my backside, without a cushion on my lap to put my arms around. It is like a security blanket that has never gone away. Mic and my Sister-in-law have caught the 'thing' from me. There is nothing better than a squishy, well filled cushion on your lap.
Which brings me to this....
NEW CUSHIONS IN MY STORE!!!
This one is a poste inspired cover in greys and is lovely against the white. I thought it looked lovely next to Mics old war trunk and my old suitcase in our bedroom this morning.

...and this ruched one that I have had quite a few enquiries about. Well, here it is.
I did notice that I am finally getting The Store to look how I wanted it, the colour palette and the style of covers I mean...anyway, as soon as I have finished this post, I will be loading these new covers on. Visit my Etsy Store to see them.
Thank you for all the lovely comments on our living room. It was so nice to share it with you all.

Playing with Autumn in our Livingroom

It was just today that it dawned on me that there is only two weeks left of Summer here in Australia. It has been so dry here of late that our grass has migrated I am sure, and even though we had a cool weekend with a little bit of rain, the heat is back.
While we had those few cool days, it had me thinking of Autumn and how much I like to layer.
So, I had a little play in the living room today. I pulled the curtains over (because the sun was beaming a pure, blinding white light into the living room and the effect is not Autumn) and changed a few things around.
I love to use throw rugs in the living room when it starts to get cool and it is not quite time to light the fire. This white one I have is so soft it is amazing.
Candles are also something that says Autumn to me, and little clusters here and there just warm things up.

Of course there has to be some good reading near the sofa to delve into and all of my white inspired ones will do nicely. I have not long had Gail Abbot's 'Living With Light', which is based on the Scandinavian way of living and saving and utilising as much light as possible through their cold, dark winters and we here in Tassie have quite cold winters with low light...not like that part of the world though.
-and of course Atlanta Bartlett!

Oh, and I am about to list these filled covers on My Etsy Shop after all of the enquiries I have had since I first showed you the one on our bedroom in my makeover post. I will let you know once it is on.
I really like it on our sofa. It may not go back on our bed!
As you can see we still have the little footstool I made over next to the wicker trunk. I use it everyday to open up the French door curtains...'cause I am a Hobbit! =0)

I like Summer, don't get me wrong, but I am actually looking forward to the cooler weather and I can't wait to snuggle up under a blanket with a steaming cup of coffee and one of my books.

Paper Love...dont forget the GIVEAWAY!!

In the spirit of all that is romantic, I HAD to show you these gorgeous roses, made of paper - YEP PAPER, made by my very talented friend Joelee. I have spoken of the amazing paper work that Joelee does before when we both had a stall at Evandale markets. I didn't have many images to show you then...til these. Joelee arrived this morning to get some help wrapping these beauties for a client, and with all of her amazing accessories I had loads of fun! Here is a shot of one of the bunches finished. We used this wonderful double sided sheet music, aptly named 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart'.

Enter four of her exquisite roses, which look so real. I can't believe this woman!

They looked perfect in this paper and on top of some old linen I had. The slight shimmer of these roses is beautiful.
We also added some of her handmade tags to the bunches. The tin hearts are stamped by Joelee, painted and aged. I would love some in white...they remind me of pressed ceiling tin.
Some cute black ribbon with white text completed this bunch and I think they looked terrific.
Who wouldn't want a bunch of those?..and they won't die!
You can see the other tag in the background, but I wanted to show this single stem that Joelee had made to resemble a Tea Rose...so cute!

Another of Joelee's stem with a different tag. On the back of each tag is a gorgeous flourished stamp with lines for a hand written love message.

I couldn't help myself! Joelee left some of the roses with me so I could play around with them. I came up with this setting.
A little bottle, my Love You tag and some thin white ribbon...imagine this on a breakfast-in-bed tray?
Laying beside the bottle is a mini rose, made with a organza ribbon.

Now, I can think of a million uses, besides the obvious holiday to use these lovely flowers...Wedding bouquets and buttonholes, table arrangements, gift toppers, get well bunches, Paper Anniversary gift (is that the first wedding anniversary?)........
If you would like some of these beauties for yourself, or a loved one, please send Joelee an email. Joelee is about to open an Etsy store where you will be able to see a lot more of her fabulous paper creations (she is working on some magnificent paper chandeliers). Stay tuned for that one.
REMEMBER, YOU STILL HAVE UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT (AUSSIE TIME) TO ENTER MY GIVEAWAY...DON'T FORGET IF YOU POST IT ON YOUR BLOG, SIDEBAR AND FOLLOW MY BLOG YOU WILL GET AN EXTRA ENTRY FOR EACH ONE YOU DO.
SEE YOU ALL MONDAY..GOOD LUCK!
