A Dear Friend...

On an entirely different note...
today was very, very sad for me and also for our family.
We had to say farewell to our beloved fur child, Coopah (below) who we have had since he was 5 weeks old. He was an amazing, loyal friend who was, is, loved dearly.
He had started to get Dementia and was going downhill in more ways than one and it was up to me to take him to the vet this afternoon and stay with him until the end.
My eyes are raw and my heart is broken.
We will miss you dearly old Coop...

and will love you forever.

  1. I am crying just reading this Ness. A pet certainly is part of your family. Hugs to you today.

  2. I´m so very sorry, it´s awful to have to do that and yet it´s the best you can do when the time has come. Animals wants to end their days in dignity too - and this way you have shown your love in the strongest way possible.

It still sucks though, I´ve been through it twice and it´s just awful. But now in retrospective, I´m glad I stepped up instead of just letting it all continue.

    You have my symphaties!

  4. I am firmly of the mind that having furry friends as beloved family members is a chance at experiencing unconditional love. Sorry for your loss-have been there at having to make the gutwrenching but humane decision. It is clear that your Coop was loved well by his humans.

  5. I am so sorry that Coopah is gone. What a hole it leaves in your life when you love a dog. He is beautiful. How wonderful of you to stay with him and give him comfort right through the end, it was a great gift. My thoughts are with you.

  7. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved fur baby. I work at an animal hospital and see the pain that pet owners go through on a weekly basis and it never gets easy. I always cry with them. I have two fur babies myself as well as two graddogs. Their love and loyalty is never ending.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
    Blessings,
    Kimberly

  8. Ness, I know how you feel. We said goodbye to our surrogate child, Ming, about 15 months ago and I still break down in tears thinking about him. We weren't prepared for the grieving our other little dog did so went and adopted a replacement. He's gorgeous and I sometimes look deep into his eyes and ask if it's really Ming back again. You did the right thing putting Coopah out of his misery although it's just so hard. Lots of hugs.

  16. I've had pets all my life and they are truly part of the family. I'm sorry for your loss of your little family member. You did the right thing. They shouldn't have to suffer in the end just because we love them so much. I've had to make this decision too and it is just heart wrenching.

  17. Ness~My eyes just teared up as I read your post. My heart breaks for you. Two years ago we had to put our 18 year old cat Cody to sleep because of kidney failure. His buddy, Abby, will be 18 next month and for the past few weeks he has been showing signs of not doing so well. We need to take him in for a look see and I am dreading it. We too love our pets so much. Blessings to you and I am so sorry for the loss of your Coop.

What a sweet photo of Coopah. Bless Coopah's heart for bringing so much love, companionship, loyalty and unconditional love into your family and bless you and your family for loving him so very dearly. A friend of mine told me when our pets pass that they pass over the Rainbow Bridge. Hugs to you and your family.

  42. Oh, I am so sorry; he was beautiful! I know exactly how you feel. We had a German Shorthair "Sissy", who made it to 16 years old. She was a doll, but developed demensia too and went do hill. It was so sad, but cute because she was just like a little ol' lady. I am so thankful for what we had with her; we have pictures all around the house of her.

My family had 2 dogs just like Coopah when I was little. They are SO smart.

    Please take care....Jodi

  48. I'm sorry for the loss of your dog. It brings tears to my eyes as I remember our blue and white border collie...Millie...she died14 years ago...she was only 4 years old and she was that 'one in a million dog'! It's so hard to lose a pet..sometimes I wonder if it's worth having pets that you eventually have to lose...but of course it is! Millie is never far away in our thoughts and Coopah will always be there in your hearts! Robx

It's not often that I'm brought to tears but your post today has done that and I didn't even know Coopah.

I'm sure he was a true gift for your family and there will be many, many wonderful memories to treasure.

Blessings and hugs to you and your family,
